PDE Releases Guidance on Peer Monitors Compliance Monitoring Training (March 24, 2019)

In a March 19th PennLink message, Patricia Hozella, Interim Director for PDE’s Bureau of Special Education, informed LEAs that PDE is responsible for ensuring that all school districts and charter schools administer special education programs and services that are in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. In order to fulfill this responsibility, the Bureau of Special Education (BSE) trains individuals to serve as peer monitors on special education monitoring teams. That training will review the updated monitoring processes and procedures including compliance data entry through the online system. Registration is available on the Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network’s (PaTTAN) website at www.pattan.net. The training will be offered on:

Thursday, May 9, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at PaTTAN Harrisburg

Friday, May 17, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at PaTTAN East

Monday, May 20, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at PaTTAN Pittsburgh

All interested peer monitors, including those currently on the peer monitoring list, must complete the updated mandated training and BSE contract to continue to serve as a peer monitor. Questions should be referred to Jill Deitrich at [email protected].
