National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM): A Time to Reinforce Vaccine Confidence

The PA Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (PA AAP) is announcing that August is National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM), an annual observance dedicated to highlighting the importance of routine vaccination. This is an important topic for schools and pediatricians to work together to provide evidence-based information and recommendations to families.

 NIAM provides an excellent opportunity to review immunization practices, encourage students to get back on schedule if they have fallen behind, and prepare families for the back-to-school season by ensuring children are up to date on recommended vaccines. The start of the school year is the perfect opportunity to assess vaccination status and answer questions.

 With the increase in measles, this proves the importance of vaccinations to decrease the spread of illness within classrooms and communities.

We encourage schools to take advantage of National Immunization Awareness Month by sharing educational materials, promoting vaccine confidence within your community, and utilizing available resources to support conversations with families.
