Gov. Wolf Signs CPR Bill into Law (June 13, 2019)

On June 12, 2019 Governor Wolf signed into law Act 7 of 2019, formerly Senate Bill 115, which requires the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) to create a curriculum for teaching CPR and includes lessons on the use of automatic external defibrillators (AEDs). The curriculum would teach “hands-only” CPR, which is a no-breath, compression-only method that the American Heart Association recommends for sudden cardiac arrest. The law also requires high school students to learn CPR prior to graduation. Pennsylvania joins nearly 40 other states have passed similar laws.
