On August 19, 2025, LEAs received a letter from the Students for Education in Pennsylvania (SEPA) Regional Network Program, the contents of which is below:
Dear Chief School Administrator,
We’d like to introduce ourselves and make you aware of an opportunity for your high school students to contribute to education policymaking in the Commonwealth. The Pennsylvania State Board of Education includes two high school students as non-voting, advisory members. We serve as the Board’s current high school student representatives, and our current mission is to establish an ongoing collaboration with dedicated Pennsylvania students to better represent the collective student perspective in education policymaking. We also desire to create a more transparent platform between the State Board of Education and students across the state.
To accomplish our mission, we created Students for Education in Pennsylvania (SEPA) – regional networks of geographically diverse students that meet on a regular basis to discuss education policies and student life. Our mission can only be accomplished with the help of students across Pennsylvania. Therefore, we invite you to nominate your most dedicated and driven high school students to contribute their unique voices to the SEPA Program. To complete the nomination process, please ask the selected members of your student body to complete the SEPA District Representative Nomination Form. More details will be sent to the student after they complete the form.
You are welcome to contact either of us with questions or concerns:
Naina Bhatia (Senior Student Member, State Board of Education): sbe2026@pasc.net Julia Antunes (Junior Student Member, State Board of Education): sbe2027@pasc.net
We appreciate and thank you for your support in expanding this representative system, and we look forward to working with your students to represent and amplify student voice in Pennsylvania education!
Sincerely,
Naina Bhatia and Julia Antunes
