Budget Bill on Gov. Wolf’s Desk for Signature ahead of Deadline (June 27, 2019)

Today, Thursday,  June 27, 2019, the PA Senate approved the 2019-20 proposed state budget that was passed this Tuesday by the House. The $34 billion budget plan, which was made part of HB 790, has now been sent to the governor for his anticipated. The proposed budget has a  1.8% ($596 million) increase in spending over the 2018-19 budget. If passed, education will enjoy a $160 million increase in the basic education subsidy, an additional $60 million for school safety and security grants, a $50 million increase special education funding, and a $10 million increase in the area of career and technical education. Also, HB 1615, an omnibus PA School Code bill has been referred to the House Rules committee and is expected to eventually land on the governor’s desk.
