Each year, the Pennsylvania Association of Pupil Services Administrators (PAPSA) recognizes outstanding pupil services programming at the state level through the Robert B. Cormany Award of Excellence in Pupil Services Programs. A committee of the PAPSA Executive Board meets in February to consider nominees for the award. School entities throughout the Commonwealth are notified of the process for submitting an award nomination via the PAPSA News and the PENN*LINK system. A nomination packet is sent to each interested party.
At the April 7th PAPSA Annual Business Meeting, the West York Bulldog Pantry was honored as the 2002 Cormany Award recipient.
Nominated by West York Area School District Director of Special Education and Pupil Services Traci L. Stauffer, the West York Bulldog Pantry is a service that the school district provides that positively impacts families, students, staff and businesses in the local community. It exemplifies the spirit of a community working together. is open monthly to students and their families who reside in the school district. The Pantry has been in operation for the past three years and is run by the Life Skills Class of teacher Amanda Burt.
Life Skills Support students learn valuable skills through the pantry’s daily operations that will help them transition into post secondary education, employment, and independent living. Students are responsible for all facets of the Bulldog Pantry, including taking donations, reviewing expiration dates, stocking shelves, and organizing the pantry; all in preparation for distributing food and household items to families in need within the district. It has continued throughout the entire pandemic time frame when families needed it most.
