On August 29, 2019, the Center for the Promotion of Social and Emotional Learning (CPSEL) announced the appointment of Carol Paxton as director. Paxton holds a doctorate in educational psychology and has worked in education for 25 years. Most recently, she collaborated with state departments of education, teachers and higher education faculty to create and implement content exams and portfolio assessments for teacher and administrator licensure.
Launched in 2017 as an initiative of the Center for Schools and Communities, CPSEL plays a critical role in bridging the gap between research and practice in social and emotional learning. It provides systemic and individualized coaching and consultation to school districts, afterschool programs and other agencies.
CPSEL is an initiative of Center for Schools and Communities, a training and consulting organization that works closely with state and federal partners to build capacity and strengthen systems around school safety, social and emotional learning, youth violence prevention, family-community-school partnerships and positive youth development, among others.
