Schools are on the front lines of the national mental health emergency Recently, the American Academy of Pediatrics has declared a national mental health emergency. As children returned to in-person, full-time school after a year and a half of isolation, deprivation, stress, trauma, and grief they brought with them a range of social, emotional, and mental health needs.
A recent report by RAND highlights a June 2021 national survey of school districts, showing educators are maintaining a focus on academics while investing more in student mental health, after-school programs, relationships and a sense of belonging, and access to essential resources like technology, food, healthcare, and housing stability.
