Region 6 Offers Free Basic Threat Assessment Training (October 15, 2019)

The Region 6 Safe Schools Symposium is a Collaborative Partnership of Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8, Central Intermediate Unit 10, and Tuscarora Intermediate Unit 11. Basic Threat Assessment Training provided by SIGMA Threat Management Associates, LLC Basic threat assessment training includes an overview on the prevalence of different types of school crime and school shootings; case studies of school shootings; major facts about school shootings; implications for school safety and violence prevention; basic principles of school threat assessment; and, strategies for enhancing the school climate. Also included are key components of effective school threat assessment; recommended team composition, policies and procedures; steps for investigating and evaluating threats and other concerning behavior; resources and strategies for managing individuals that may pose a threat of harm; establishing key community relationships; sharing information amid FERPA and HIPAA concerns; considerations for public information officers; and case studies of prevented attacks. Basic threat assessment training is FREE and is appropriate for administrators, faculty, counselors, school resource officers, local law enforcement, support staff, district staff, and other personnel who are committed to school safety. Dates: November 18 and 19, 2019 (training is repeated on November 19 – this is not a two-day training). Light Breakfast & Sign-In: 8:00 am to 8:30 am. Training begins: 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.
